CHURNINGS

                                        by H.F. (Tom) Noyes

picnic rain
sheltering under
leafless oaks

light rain sweeps in
    on a chorus of frogs
         making no sound

stream at dusk
   bamboo rushes bow
       with nesting birds

creek in mist
from the hidden footbridge
waterplants wave

falling asleep
from quaking aspens
rainsong relayed

how violently
the big branch shakes
the little bird has flown

first light
filling the orchard
squeak of the pump

the herding winds
a flock of wooly cloudlets
off to new pastures

behind the dunes
the whinnying horses
mare's tail clouds

     ground breeze churning
wildflower heads
          through yes and no
